Dr. Hadeel Qazzaz, PhD, was born in Gaza Shati refugee camp. She received her Ed.D. from Leeds University, is a specialist in gender and development, and is currently working as a community impact planner for United Way of Calgary and Area. She is a board member of the Women’s Affairs Technical Committees and the General Union of Palestinian Women, Ramallah Branch. She has served as director of the Palestinian American Research Center in Ramallah and worked as the program manager and deputy director of the Heinrich Boell Foundation in Ramallah for ten years. She contributed to Palestinian human development reports, the Palestine national poverty report, the Palestine time-use survey, and reports on the right to education as well as a volume on water as a human right in the Middle East focusing on Palestine. She was involved in the adaptation of the Transparency International Source Book into Arabic. This enriching experience enabled her to work closely with researchers and activists from many Arab and European countries. She is an activist in both the Palestinian women's movement and the Palestinian civil society movement. She is involved in different types of cultural dialogue and exchange including dialogue between Europe and the Middle East. She has organized and has participated in many regional and international conferences that dealt with issues of development, women's rights, and democratization processes.
